Kingsley Bishop is a Sierra Leonean-American documentary photographer whose work explores transnational identities and colonial legacies. Growing up in numerous countries on the African continent and with a bachelor’s degree in international relations, Bishop’s practice centres themes of Black life, women’s rights and the notion of a third culture, echoing her lived experience. Using research and archival practices to develop a deepened understanding of the topics and collaborators she works with, Bishop begins her process from a standpoint of care. Exploration is a key element of her work as Bishop’s projects flow from photographic documentation into analogue processing and digital manipulation techniques while she synthesises her bodies of work.
